A Dose of The Blues

'The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1969.' This is Volume three of a three part set on DVD.  Great black and white footage of various Blues musicians. Huge names in the history of The Blues playing on each others songs. Live recordings in small television studios during a European tour. I love the imagery that goes with each song. And each song is a treasure.

It seems that a different tune may stand out with each viewing. Today it was Hound Dog Taylor & Little Walter performing 'Wild About You.'

Other highlights …. Skip James performing 'All Night Long' and Koko Taylor singing 'Wang Dang Doodle.' 

There's no filler material on this set, just classic Acoustic (mostly) Blues. So if you have a couple hours …..

John Lee Hooker Live!

Live Electric Blues from 1977 and John Lee Hooker!! It's the voice that draws me in!

A "Black Friday" vinyl release picked up just two weeks ago. Did I mention that his voice is what demands my attention?

I had heard of him before but never paid much attention until I heard his vocals on Pete Townshend's, "The Iron Man" album. From that introduction, digging deeper into his music was what eventually led me to The Blues and expanding my tastes in music at a time when I was beginning to think that there wasn't much remaining to discover.

These days it seems, I trend more towards the old and classic in music than I do towards what's new.

Another great album cover. Keep returning and browsing through those used vinyl record bins because you never know what you might find on any given adventure. It's a genuine thrill when I come across a recording like this!!

Records with "Various Artists" has mostly been a good label in my search experiences.

When I was younger I wouldn't give The Blues a second thought. It wasn't a consideration in my music choices. But about ten years ago, through the desire and search for more slide guitar sounds in my life, my eyes and ears were finally opened .... enter, The Blues!!!

Today's Vinyl Finds

Just browsing through the bins in the record store looking for something to grab my attention.

Something a little familar. Some Classic rock from the 1960's. Previously unreleased songs. Some with vocals, some instrumentals. Lou Reed!

Also came across something totally unknown. I'm not even sure if it's Jazz or Blues? Or both? In the liner notes it mentions "Boogie Woogie" piano.

Liner notes are always a good thing!

Geoff Muldaur and the Texas Sheiks. The late Stephen Bruton contributing on guitar, banjo and mandolin. From 2009. Mostly traditional Blues numbers reworked.

One of their songs was featured on the tribute album; "Things About Comin' My Way - A Tribute to the Music of the Mississippi Sheiks" who recorded in the early 1930's.
