Sam's Place

I had no idea. A total surprise to discover a new Little Feat album. Released this year on their Hot Tomato record label.

I've been a huge fan since their late 1980's reformation. 

This one with all lead vocals by their percussionist and occasional (until now) lead vocalist, Sam Clayton. There's also a duet with Bonnie Raitt. Great blues sounds. 

Little Feat always reminds me of my old friend Mitch. (R.I.P.). He was a huge fan of their 1970's music and the vocals of Lowell George. He would refuse, despite all my efforts and offers to make mix-tapes and cd's, to listen to anything the band recorded after Lowell George's passing in the late 1970's which is about the time that I began paying attention to their sounds through a Jackson Browne bootleg album containing the song, "Long Distance Love."   

Safe As Milk

A recent (three days ago) vinyl find. A reissue of the original from 1967 yet new sounds to my ears. Psychedelic and Blues Rock. Captain Beefheart was Don Van Vliet.

It boggles my mind to think these sounds were made over half a century ago.

Ry Cooder was a guitar player for Captain Beefheart. But this sounds nothing like modern day Ry Cooder. Nor 1970's Ry Cooder.

I wouldn't say the music sounds "Safe As Milk."

I've developed a liking in the past two or three years for 1960's Psychedelic Rock and I think of these records from that era as being treasured and valuable historical documents. It would be wrong to let any sounds fade away.

Never Too Late

New one just released a week or two ago from Tony Joe White. Love the deep voice. I've seen his sound described as "swamp rock."

Never too late ..... It took many years before I really heard his song "Polk Salad Annie" for the great tune that it was. I stumbled across the album the song is included on in an antique shop and though I really didn't know much about his music at the time, I was looking to bolster my vinyl record collection with classic 1960's and early 70's sounds. What a great find it turned out to be!! And now I'm a huge fan!!

When a musician has a forty-plus years career (or more) there's always a then and now comparison. More often than not, it seems that "then" prevails. For Tony Joe White though, both eras are great!

Vinyl Finds - Continuing Adventures

From 1969. Looks like the original vinyl. Great voice!! The liner notes calls his music, "swamp music." His most famous song is "Pork Salad Annie." It's not found here but his "Rainy Night In Georgia" is. And once again, great album cover artwork! The 1960's, probably the best decade for album covers.

While following Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens, etc., during the 1970's and beyond, Tony Joe White (and others) went mostly un-noticed. It's time now to make up for that.

Singer/Songwriter! Blues-rock! Swamp music! It's just great sounds missed out on for so many years. It feels like unearthing lost treasures when finding and giving an initial listening, 46 years later. And it just looks cool visually in a collection! Put it inside a plastic sleeve and it looks like a rare collectors item.

Slide Into Heaven

Delta Moon's song, "Ghost In My Guitar." There's not much that I enjoy more than slide guitar. Doesn't matter whether it's acoustic or electric. And if you enjoy images of old guitars, there's plenty in the video.
